This is a list of the top twenty starting poker hands that lead to winning rounds. It includes the probability that the player will win as well. For the list I’ve included not only probability but also why. And in all cases there is no guarantee but an increased likelihood of results. I found that following a guide, betting only with cards like these will increase the chance of cashing somewhere in the tournament if not the final heads up of a tournament. The top twenty poker hands that lead to winning hands are:
Ace ace combo are always a favorite. The likelihood of winning are only 30%. They don’t win all the time but most of the time. One of the best ways to play this hand is to re-raise early in the betting round and eliminate anyone from challenging you.
Another favorite to win is the king king pair combination. If you look at the history of winning hands, you will see that pairs and three of kinds tend to represent more winning hands than anything else. A pair of kings gives a 26% chance of winning.
Queen queen combo is another favored to win hand. You have to check the flop and make sure there’s no aces. If someone is raising dramatically it could indicate an ace in their hand if there’s an ace in the flop but the likelihood of winning is 22%.
If you play poker you know the Ace King combination often wins. The chances are 20% and they don’t always win but they often do. You increase your chances of a top hand by 100% just by playing them if either ace or king show up.
A pair of jacks also rocks. A pair can lead to three of a kind , more on this later. But jacks are face cards and higher than most cards. The chances of winning with a pair of jacks is around 19%
An ace queen suited combination has many possibilities. Royal flush, flush , straight, high card and more. Always play these great hands. The chances of a win is around 19%.
The suited king queen combination is a great starter hand. This hand can lead to winning by royal flush, flush, high card and more. The chances of winning with this combination is around 19%.
Ace jack suited
The suited ace jack is, like the above, a great starter poker hand. High card, royal flush, flush, straight and more are chances to win with this combination. The likelihood of winning with this poker hand is 18%.
Ace ten suited, of any suit, is a great hand to play. The possibilities are there for royal flushes, flushes, high cards, straights etc. The chances of winning are 17%.
The queen jack suited is another opportunity to win. Like the hand above the possibilities are the same. The chance to win around 17%.
Ace king unsuited.
An unsuited ace king is your friend. It will lead you to victory more often than not. You have the ace and king in your favor and if either of these high cards come out as a pair, you win. The chance of winning with these poker hands is around 17%.
Ten ten pair is a great hand. It’s a higher pair that can lead to three or four of a kinds. The chance of winning with this combo is around 17%.
King ten suited
King ten, suited, is a great hand to play for the potential royal flushes, flushes, straights and high card angles. The chance to win is around 17%.
Like the hand above, the queen ten suited has great potential. The likelihood of winning with this hand is 17%.
The unsuited king queen presents opportunities for high card, high pair, flushes and straights. Very good since most winning poker hands are pairs. The chance to win is around 15%.
The suited jack ten presents with opportunities to make royal flushes, flushes, straights and high cards. The chance to win is around 16%.
Ace nine suited.
The suited ace nine gives chances for flushes and high card primarily. Since most winning hands are pairs, it’s a great hand to play with the chance of winning around 15%.
Ace Queen unsuited
The chance for a straight, flush and high card give this combo a great placement on cards you should play if dealt. The chances of winning are good at around 15%.
a pair of nines is excellent. Not everyone with higher cards has a shoe in hand. A pair of anything is great. The chance to win with a pair of nines is 15%.
Pair of eights and below
I wanted to add a pair of anything is always good to play. You already have something and need to cautiously take it from there. If your dealt, for example, a pair of eights and the flop reveals face cards with raising opponents, you might need to fold. On the other hand if all the cards are less than eight, unsuited, it might be time to call and seize the pot.
Playing only these type of hands with the percentages will correlate with where you will finish in the tournament. If you play only these hands and win or lose sometimes, you will probably finish in the 15-20% range of the entire tournament players.
